Ian Povey. M.Ost, MSCCO, APNT
Principal Osteopath, Cranial Osteopath
Ian studied at the prestigious British School of Osteopathy (BSO) and graduated with a Master of Osteopathy degree. He is registered with both the General Osteopathic Council and The Institute of Osteopathy.
Ian came to Osteopathy later in life, after a successful career in the transport sector and automotive industry. During his training at the BSO Ian worked in the general clinic, childrens’ clinic, expectant mothers’ clinic, HIV and AIDS clinic and within the NHS in both a GP practice and a hospital setting. Ian describes this training, which took him 5 years and included over 1000 hours in a clinical setting, as life changing. It is the diverse nature of Osteopathy and the ability to treat the patient as a whole and not just address the symptom that Ian finds most enjoyable and he strives to ensure that this is the holistic approach he applies to all his patients. Utilising Osteopathy’s diverse range of techniques including soft tissue work, joint articulations and manipulations along with cranial osteopathy, allows Ian to treat a wide variety of people from expectant mothers and babies through to the elderly and those who have suffered sporting or work related injuries. Ian’s overriding aim is to provide the highest possible standard of healthcare and he manages this by tailoring treatment to you and your needs. Ian treats patients of all ages, from new borns through to the elderly Patients find Ian to be relaxed and friendly, always happy to talk and explain what he is doing and he strives to make sure each patient is as relaxed as they can be while in his care. As part of Ian's continued development as an Osteopath he is committed to following the fellowship programme with The Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy by no means a small undertaking. |
I have been visiting Ian for about three years now and he is the best osteopath I have ever had work on my back. (And before Ian I'd had quite a few). Any aches, pains or headaches that I've ever had he has been able to sort for me and the pain has eased very quickly. Ian worked on my back throughout my pregnancy and helped to keep any related pain to a minimum. He has even checked my three week old son over. He is incredibly knowledgable and I cannot recommend him highly enough - in fact people that I have recommended him too have now also become regular visitors!
Claire I went to see Ian today after a week of terrible pain in my lower back, pelvis, hips, and upper legs, he listened to my issues and then immediately found the pain point. He identified it was an issue with my pelvis being out of alignment, and with that then one leg was out of place and longer than the other. He popped everything back into alignment and taped me up, I'm already feeling a lot better, and so happy Ian set me on the path to a swift recovery! Thanks Ian! Gemma I visited Ian for pain in my back and neck. The pain stopped me riding my motorcycle and kite surfing. I was amazed how quickly I felt better, it only took a couple of treatments to get me fixed. I am now riding my motorcycle and kite surfing, in fact I recently spent the weekend over in europe on my motorbike, with no pain at all! Russell I was at the end of my tether with an excruciating pain in my hip and my leg, when a friend of mine recommended her osteopath, Ian. Immediately Ian identified the problem and the pain gradually eased off, before completely going. Throughout my visits to Ian I began to offload all of my aches and pains, including severe headaches. After numerous, unsuccessful visits to the doctors I was surprised by Ian’s ability to relieve the pain of my headaches, which I now regularly get checked out. I would highly recommend Ian. He is extremely talented as well as friendly, welcoming and caring. The problem is never too small or too big for Ian, he will always strive to do what he can, absolutely brilliant. Thank you. Katie I went to Ian during my training for the London marathon with an injury. His treatment & advice was superb & helped me make it to the start line this year. I would thoroughly recommend him & I will be going back should I need him. Michelle I've been taking my daughter to Ian for over 2 months because of the pain that her scoliosis causes her. Since her very first session she has seen a major improvement in her pain levels she rarely needs painkillers now which is amazing. I cannot recommend Gravesend Osteopathic Practice enough. Ian offers a fantastic service and has made us feel at ease with his brilliant sense of humour and professionalism. I want to thank Ian for all the help I get from my osteopathic treatment with him. I really enjoy my sessions, laughs as well as treatment. Natalie Many thanks for all the marvellous attention you have given me. It is very much appreciated!! Ken |
